Resource Teacher / Early Interventionist

 

Job Function

To be responsible for the planning and implementation of all aspects related to an Inclusive Child Care Program.  This includes but is not limited to, supporting, educating, and working with the program’s children, parents and staff, as well as, other professionals in the service field.

Job Requirements

Two year College Diploma in Early Childhood Education plus post diploma certificate or equivalent in theoretical and practical Early Intervention / Special Needs Resourcing

Duties and Responsibilities

bullet

Work independently to carry out daily tasks to coordinate, instruct and support the children and staff for smooth functioning of the program

bullet

Conduct initial and follow-up meetings with parents enrolling their children who are experiencing challenges to their development

bullet

Develop close working relationship with parents / families

bullet

Administer pre-school screens to children in the program

bullet

In partnership with families, initiate referrals and coordinate / case manage outside professional services for the children, as needed

bullet

Advise and support staff regarding concerns for any of the children  

bullet

Working as a team, help develop and carry out children’s Individual Program Plan (IPP) with family members, Early Childhood Educators (ECE) and other involved professionals 

bullet

Working with Early Childhood Educators, help plan daily activities to stimulate children’s development

bullet

Possess ability / knowledge to provide or direct parents and staff to needed resources and information

bullet

Provide ongoing training and advice to assist staff in supporting the full inclusion and development of children with challenges

bullet

Maintain records of assessments, observations, meetings and planned programming (such records are identified as “Individual Program Plans”) for each child in the Inclusive Program

bullet

If requested, provide home visits and attend meetings to support families (transition to school, consultations with outside professionals, etc.)

Demands of the Position

Physical strength and agility are required for free movement (stooping, twisting, kneeling, crawling, running, etc.) and lifting and carrying of children and equipment

bullet

Requirements for concentration to develop Individual Program Plans, develop staff training, prepare plans to support families, arrange / attend meetings or deliver presentations
