Position Title: Cultural Coordinator

Classification: Full time

 

The Cultural Coordinator is responsible for planning, implementing, delivering and evaluation of cultural activities.

 

Duties

bullet

Duties include, but will not be limited to the following:

bullet

Strive to create a happy safe atmosphere of caring, growth, learning, stimulation, creativity and respect in all aspects of the program;

bullet

Assist in planning and preparing a positive learning environment, setting up interest and activity centres, and preparing needed materials and supplies for each days events;

bullet

Integrates Aboriginal culture into all program activities;

bullet

To be able to work as a team member with all staff and parents/caregivers to meet the needs of the individual child;

bullet

To provide for the welfare and safety of all children, both on and off the Program site during program hours;

bullet

To participate as a team member in daily operation to promote positive examples of team building and co operation;

bullet

To be familiar with and perform duties in keeping with policies and procedures;

bullet

Encourages open communication with parents/caregivers concerning the needs, progress or concerns of their children;

bullet

Assists the Early Childhood Educator in any other appropriate ways;

 

Qualifications

bullet

Knowledge of culture, values, aspirations of Aboriginal people;

bullet

Fluency in native language is a must;

bullet

Degree in Early Childhood Education or a Diploma in Early Childhood Education is preferred;

bullet

Must have knowledge of both Day Nurseries Act and Child & Family Services Act;

bullet

Must possess strong interpersonal skills, and demonstrated ability to work effectively as team member to display a professional delivery of service to parents, staff and children of program;

bullet

Must possess excellent communication skills;

bullet

Active in promoting healthy lifestyles;

bullet

Valid First Aid and CPR certificate;

bullet

Must pass a medical exam, must be in good health and able to do heavy lifting;

bullet

Must pass a criminal record check;

bullet

Work experience with special needs children and asset;
